In order to apply to Concordia you have to follow all those instructions seriously. In fact, you have to be sure that you have done everything, and have also obtained all papers you need, before coming to Montreal. In this page, you will find all information you need to know. These information are the result of our experience, thus some points depend on your own university.
Before your arrival
The first step is to apply to Concordia, so you have to know where, when and how to do that?
Where :
First, you need to find in your campus the international student office which will help you to find all papers, and also all things to do.
In fact, this service will tell you if your university has an international agreement, otherwise it can not be possible to make an exchange.
So, if there is no agreement, you have to make the procedure by yourself which is more difficult, and in this case you will not be regarded
as an exchange student.
In our case, there is an agreement between both universities, so we are students in exchange with
CREPUQ which is a program for exchange student with universities of Quebec; we have followed all procedures using their website.
But, you can also, check the website of Concordia University, which contains
a lot of information about requirements you need to apply.
When :
It is important to make this procedure at least one year before coming at Concordia.
Indeed, in our case, we began our steps in October 2005 to enter Concordia in fall 2006 (September).
That is why you have to take it carefully, because it is a long project which has to be done by taking all deadlines into account.
So, normally if you follow all information of CREPUQ procedure, according to our experience, you have to provide all your grades since
the first year in university.
There is a first selection from your own university and then from Concordia University.
Indeed you have to be a good student, that means that you have to get good grades in order to come in Concordia.
So you get a file from your international student office, then you provide all required documents (statements of results, résumé...),
and after that you wait until around december to get the result from the selection of your international student office.
Finally you will have to apply to Concordia for providing other documents
(see CREPUQ website). You have to get all those documents by March and wait for the response from Concordia University (begining of June).
How :
To apply to Concordia, you need to follow all instructions of the international student office of your university.
You will need to give all information that prove your level like:
- Letters of recommandation from your teachers
- Letter of motivation
- Résumé
- Financial proof (you need to prove that you have enough money in order to live in Montreal)
- Courses you want to follow at Concordia
- ...
After your arrival
Congratulations! You have been accepted at Concordia, so now you have to know exactly what you have to do when you arrive at Montreal.
Because you are a new student at Concordia, you have received a book containing all information about Concordia University.
This book contains pertinent information
regarding living in Montreal and things you have to do when you arrive at Concordia.
Below is a summary of important things you have to do:
- ISO Orientation session : which corresponds to different sessions where the International Student Office of Concordia will explain you everything, what to do,
deadlines for your courses, and fees.
- Get your Student ID card : you have to get your student card in the "burks office" (see building LB in the map), which is the
service where you also have to pay your fees.
- Choose your courses : in fact even if you have chosen your courses before coming in Montreal, you have to check if all courses
are still available, using MyConcordia Portal. This portal is very usefull, because it
contains also your class schedule, books required for each course...
- Get your books : using MyConcordia Portal you can check the list of your books, and you buy all of them in the
BookStore (see building LB in the map).
Advice : do not buy your books until you are sure that you will keep your courses. Indeed, before the deadline, you can change your
courses whithout problems...
- Visit the concordia campus : during the ISO session you will have information about when you can visit the Concordia campus.
...
Enjoy your time at Concordia !!!
